Should a mental health practice be on Instagram or LinkedIn?

Usually both, for different people. Instagram reaches people who might become patients. LinkedIn reaches the doctors, employers and other clinicians who refer them, and the clinicians you may want to hire.

Instagram is for the people looking for help

People thinking about seeing a psychiatrist or therapist look at Instagram to get a feel for who they would be talking to. Short, plain posts answering their questions do the most here: what happens at a first appointment, whether insurance covers it, how a psychiatrist differs from a therapist.

LinkedIn is for referrers and hiring

Primary care doctors, employers and other clinicians decide where to send someone partly on whether they know the practice. LinkedIn is where they see the clinician's thinking. It is also where a growing practice finds its next hire.

Do one well before adding the other

Posting every week on one platform beats posting now and then on four. Pick the one closest to how your patients arrive, make it consistent, then add the second.
